POC Bung

We had a bung (basically, “bung” is the word for a party or gathering where typically food is involved).  It was a brunch with all our friends from our training- Pacific Orientation Course (POC). 

 

It was actually quite sad for me…because some of my good friends are leaving.  Helen, from England, leave THIS Friday.  She is one of those people who was really open to teaching me about her home country and we were able to laugh about how she pronounces certain things. I could see myself hanging out with Helen ALL the time.  She just has such a fun look on life….and really just makes everyone happy when she is around.

 

Also, my friend Mariela from Argentina, is about to go on a survey.  She will be gone for a couple of months while she goes towards the coast.  She is part of a team that will go and meet with a lot of villages, live with the people, and learn about their culture.  She helps determine which languages are in need of a translation project to begin and how soon. 

 

Also, my friend Dena, was a teacher for the school-age kids at POC.  She came here to Ukarumpa for a few weeks. Now, she has to go back to Madang (the coast) because the next course starts in August…and there is much planning to be done.  She will most likely come back to Ukarumpa before she goes back to CA or Portland.  BUT…you never know here!  She is the person who taught me how to play Cities and Knights (Settlers of Catan)….and I am totally going to miss playing with her!

 

Sigh…these are three of my favorite, interesting people as of yet!  At least, Mariela and Dena will/are planning to come back.  Helen is “going finish”.  If I want to see her, I will have to travel to Europe.  Anyone want to come with??
