When I Get To Australia....

....I'm Going To Be FOUR!!!!!

This has been a phrase that we hear about 5 times a day in our house. Somehow, in all the excitement surrounding our "move" to Australia, Ben has it in his head that as soon as his little feet hit the ground in The Land Down Under, he is going to be 4 years old. He tells his friends this. He tells his teachers this. Shoot, you can even find him telling the dog and cat about this! Little does he know that we get to Australia on November 10th, he doesn't REALLY turn four until December 28th.

So, last night at the dinner table, Caleb and I had an epiphany. So what if the kid thinks he turns four in November. Really, in the grand scheme of his life, how big of a difference will it make? It's not like we are going to have a big birthday party with all his friends in Australia. No, we have already planned to have an actual party for him in the month of February when we get back to PNG- complete with cake and PNG ice cream and probably the slip and slide.

So, here's the plan. As soon as that little guy's feet hit Aussie soil, he is having a birthday! We will probably get settled in the first day, but soon after, we are going to take him to the free public lagoon, go out to a nice lunch, go to Target and buy him a new toy and then sing "Happy Birthday" to the kid over some real ice cream (think Cold Stone Creamery).

The month of December is going to be pretty jam packed as it is. Caleb will fly to Sydney to take his certification exam on the 1st. Ben's Grammy arrives on the 6th, the baby is due between the 10th and 13th, me and the baby fly to Sydney for the day to get the baby's passport, then Ben's Grammy leaves on the 20th, we celebrate Christmas, then we pack up and move to a rent-free house and then it is Ben's actual birthday, followed closely by New Year's celebrations. We like this plan of celebrating this kid's birthday earlier rather than later.

And, if you all know me at all, then you are probably wondering why I didn't think of this sooner. I absolutely LOVE birthdays and any excuse to celebrate one earlier rather than later is more fun for me!!

So, yes.....Ben, when you get to Australia, you are going to be FOUR!!!!
