We've Moved! (Part 1)

Well, it took a week, but we have moved out of the 4plex apartment building and are now in our "new to us" house. We are going to live here for the next year. This post will include pictures of the outside....it is so nice to have a yard and space for Ben to play and explore. Papua New Guinea is definitely a place for little boy adventures. There are trees to climb, mud to play in, huge bugs to discover, flowers to pick (since they grow back so easily) and so much more!

Here is a picture of the outside of the house.

This house is on the opposite side of the center from where we used to live. The area is known as the "Upper Oval". Lots of people run around the oval or walk their dogs here. Every week-end a volleyball game happen on the grass court. We also have a Frisbee Golf course here on center.....and this house happens to be a "golf course" property. :) Since we live in the mountains of Papua New Guinea, flat ground i hard to come by around here. I really enjoy walking the dog we now look after. It is so flat and sounded by mountains and breath-taking views on all sides. Ben just loves the freedom of being able to play outside.....and I enjoy being able to see him even if he runs all the way to the other end of the oval.

We didn't think that the house would come with a vehicle. I cannot even begin to tell you how THRILLED we were when we were asked if we wanted to use it. Not to mention....this is a GREAT van.....it has 4WD and all terrain tires. It seats lots of people, so I joke and call it "My Coaster".....as in my Coaster Bus. We were asked not to drive it off center, which we are used to. Again, it is just SO nice to have wheels.

Here are some pictures of the backyard. The owners planted beautiful flowers and really took care of their garden. We have a yard lady who will come once or twice a week to help maintain the grounds. Here in PNG, everything grows so easily. Caleb is planning to plant herbs so that we have them fresh and readily available.

This is Teddy! Does he look big? I don't think this picture shows you just how BIG Teddy is!

Hopefully this picture will give you a little perspective on his size. He is huge....but such a GREAT dog to look after. He is great to walk and here in PNG, his size makes him a great watch dog for security reasons.

Lastly, here are a couple of pictures of the view from the house. Pictures here just do not do the landscape justice, but at least you can get a glimpse of the beauty of God's creation that we get to enjoy every day. Wish you come all come and see it in person.....

Notice the gardens on the hills....Papua New Guineans are essentially subsistence farmers. The land here is so rich and plentiful, this country does not have poverty in the sense most of us are used to in the States and other third world countries. For the most part, the people here have their own land and use that land to survive. They eat what they grow and they can build their houses completely out of materials they get from their gardens....granted, it takes at least a year to build a house here.....and if there is tribal fighting, houses tend to get burned down. But, you get the idea.
